Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner Jim Redeker today highlighted the contributions of CTDOT State Farm Safety Patrol™ operators for their work assisting stranded motorists and improving highway safety around the state, noting that the unique public-private partnership is continuing important work of assisting stranded motorists and providing necessary traffic control at incident scenes to alleviate congestion and prevent secondary crashes.

Gov. Malloy Meets with Organizations to Discuss Impact Budget Situation is Having on Affordable Housing
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today met with a group of nonprofit organizations from across the state to discuss the impact that the current budget impasse is having on those receiving housing assistance. Housing providers and residents joined Governor Malloy and urged state leaders to come together in order to pass a budget so the state can continue to provide vitally needed services to the most vulnerable residents.

Gov. Malloy Vetoes Legislation Aimed at Weakening Affordable Housing Standards
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has vetoed legislation aimed at weakening affordable housing standards in the state, saying that the guidelines are necessary for spurring the creation of affordable homes in communities with good schools, jobs, transit access, and vital services. At a time when the number of affordable housing units in the state has grown larger during the past several years than it has over the last several decades, state laws should be encouraging this continued growth, not moving in the opposite direction, he explained.

Gov. Malloy Announces I-95 Bridge Replacement Project Connecting New Haven and West Haven is Three Months Ahead of Schedule
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner Jim Redeker today announced that as a result of innovative construction techniques, CTDOT has been able to shave off three months from the construction schedule for the new, replacement bridge that is being built over the West River along I-95 northbound and southbound, which connects New Haven and West Haven. The bridge carries about 135,000 vehicles per day.

Gov. Malloy Announces 'Q Bridge' to be Lit Red, White, and Blue for Independence Day
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut will illuminate the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven – informally known by residents as the Q Bridge – in red, white, and blue lights on the evenings of Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4, in observation of Independence Day. Beacons capable of projecting light nearly six miles into the clear night sky will be lit until 1:00 a.m. during those nights. In addition, the Governor is directing Connecticut residents to visit the state’s tourism website at www.CTvisit.com, where they can find a schedule of fireworks shows that are scheduled to take place across the state throughout the coming days. Dozens of towns and cities in Connecticut have scheduled fireworks displays.

Malloy today announced that he has signed an executive order reinforcing the state’s nondiscrimination policies within the Connecticut Military Department following an announcement from President Trump this morning that he intends to ban people who are transgender from serving in the military in any capacity.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Applaud Final Approval of State Employee Concession Deal Saving Taxpayers over $24 Billion
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are applauding the final legislative approval today of an agreement with the state employee unions on contract concessions that will save the state’s taxpayers approximately $24 billion over the next twenty years. With today’s vote by the State Senate to approve the agreement, which was ratified in the House of Representatives last week, the concession package can now begin to take effect and start producing savings, including $1.57 billion in the current biennium.
