Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Receives $2.6 Million to Assist State’s Efforts in Processing and Testing of Sexual Assault Kits
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has been awarded two competitive, federal grants worth $2.6 million that will assist in the state’s efforts to improve the processing and testing of sexual assault evidence kits. The grants come to the state as part of the ongoing work of the Governor’s Sexual Assault Kit Working Group, which Governor Malloy formed in 2016 to assist in the standardization and advancement in testing evidence kits by the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory.

Gov. Malloy Announces First Meeting of the Newly Formed Commission on Fiscal Stability and Economic Growth
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the newly formed Commission on Fiscal Stability and Economic Growth will hold its first meeting on Friday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 1D of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The 14-member group was created as part of the bipartisan state budget that Governor Malloy signed into law on October 31 and will be responsible for developing and recommending policies to achieve state government fiscal stability and promote economic growth and competitiveness within the state.

Gov. Malloy: Federal Court Continues to Affirm Department of Children and Families’ Progress and Orders New Juan F. Exit Plan
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the U.S. District Court overseeing the Juan F. consent decree has ordered changes to the decree, including a streamlined monitoring process and adequate staffing levels, which will enable the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to achieve better outcomes for children and families and ultimately result in an end to decades of court jurisdiction.

Gov. Malloy Introduces Budget Proposal Focused on Making State Economy More Predictable and More Sustainable
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today submitted his Fiscal Year 2018/2019 biennial budget proposal to the state legislature that was designed to encourage fiscal stability and predictability for Connecticut residents and businesses while building on the progress made in recent years to reduce spending, bolster our economy, and grow jobs.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff Thursday in Honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and State of Connecticut flags to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, December 7, 2017, in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The national observation honors the lives lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags – including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise – should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

Gov. Malloy: State Resurfaced 260 Two-Lane Miles of Roadways in 2017
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) resurfaced a total of 260 two-lane miles of roadways this construction season. Approximately 55 two-lane miles of that amount was completed under CTDOT’s Pavement Preservation Program, which includes crack filling, surface patching, drainage repairs, and other rehabilitation work to extend the life of existing roadways.

Gov. Malloy Activates State’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol Through Next Tuesday
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that in anticipation of temperatures over the next several days that are forecast to be bitter cold with negative wind chill factors at times, he is activating the state’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol beginning today and remaining in effect through Tuesday, January 2, 2018. This is the first time so far this winter season that the protocol has been enacted.

Gov. Malloy Urges Towns and Cities to Register for Program That Will Significantly Improve Accuracy of the Upcoming Census
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging municipalities across Connecticut to register for the U.S. Census Bureau’s Local Update of Census Address (LUCA) Program – an initiative created by the bureau as an opportunity for state and local governments to provide an updated and complete list of addresses in their communities in preparation for the federal government’s upcoming census in 2020.

Gov. Malloy and Conn. Airport Authority Announce Launch of Norwegian Air International Operations at Bradley International Airport
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, officials from the Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA), and representatives from Norwegian Air today announced that Norwegian Air International, a low-cost carrier and Norwegian Air’s Irish subsidiary, will soon commence operations at Bradley International Airport. Beginning in June, 17, 2017, the airline will offer direct, nonstop service from Bradley International Airport to Edinburgh, Scotland, at its trademark low cost fares.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of State’s ‘Fresh Start’ Tax Initiative
Governor Dannel P. Malloy along with Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Commissioner Kevin Sullivan today announced that DRS is launching the CT Fresh Start program – a voluntary compliance initiative available to both individuals and businesses that provides incentives to taxpayers who report and pay their outstanding, unreported tax liabilities to the state. This program, which was created by the bipartisan state budget Governor Malloy signed into law on October 31, is aiming to bring in $60 million to the state by the end of FY18 and an additional $25 million by November 30, totaling $85 million.
